The National Research Center of Overseas Sinology evolved from the Overseas Sinology Research Center at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), which was founded in November 1996. Since then the center has been committed to bridging Chinese and other cultures and taken on the dual missions of introducing the world to China – the tradition of BFSU – and “introducing China to the world.” It has made remarkable progress in academic publications, exchanges and other activities, contributing to the international development of sinology and of communication between academic circles at home and abroad, and is emerging as a prominent force in the realm of Sinology worldwide.
